2D Artworks Purchase for Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR), in partnership with the UrbanArt Commission, is seeking 2D artwork reflecting the young, urban, positive outlook representative of the individuals and community served. In line with the mission to provide first-class care to the residents of Memphis and conscious of the positive therapeutic effect of the visual arts, funds have been earmarked to enhance the PPGMR Building with the work of Memphis artists. Up to 29 framed, 2D works with an emphasis on photography will be purchased. The Selection Committee may decide to purchase individual works or a series of related pieces from any of the artists submitting works. The work will reflect the diversity of the Memphis community and is intended to feature relationships of all ages and types, including the LGBTQ community.  Hidden gems of Memphis locales are also of interest. The goal is to create a welcoming environment for all patients, families and friends,  staff, and the general visiting public. PPGMR seeks to enhance the overall appearance and therapeutic environment provided for patients.

Founded in 1938, PPGMR offers high quality, affordable reproductive health services and a wide variety of family planning options. PPGMR is a trusted, nonjudgmental health care provider working to empower the people in their community. Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis has a vision of compassion and equity in health care for Memphis residents.

The UrbanArt Commission in tandem with PPGMR, is facilitating the  selection and placement of the artwork. An award winning non-profit,  UrbanArt, works with various partners to enhance the community through public art and placemaking. We celebrate diversity in everything we do.

Types of Work

Purchase 25-29 existing 2D works for the 1st floor patient area, including patient waiting rooms, counseling rooms and hallways, ranging in size from 24 to 36 inches in height/width. Work must be durable, low maintenance and appropriate for locations accessible to the public.
* Purchase price per artwork will generally range between $600 and $1,200
* Media: photographs, works on canvas or paper and/or other wall-mounted 2D media - surfaces must be robust and easy to clean
* All photography and works on paper need to be professionally framed with archival matting or floated inside the frame
* Mats and frames should be neutral in color - white, off-white, light tan, light gray, or black.

How to Apply

Artists new to the UrbanArt Commission need to join the online Artist Registry prior to submitting any works for this Call for Entries. Artists already registered can access their account via their password to upload new works or select appropriate works from their portfolios and/or a current resume. Complete applicant's materials need to be uploaded via the UrbanArt Opportunities website link located in the box to the left.
Please upload the following materials for the PPGMR direct purchase project:
  • Résumé, not to exceed 2 pages including name, full address, phone, email, and website if applicable.
  • Between 3-10 high-quality images of 2D artworks available for purchase.
  • List of three professional references, including current phone and email.
Hardcopy packets, digital files, and CD-Rs will not be accepted.
