Attend this two-session workshop to learn how to successfully negotiate freelance, commission, and contract work from your first meeting with a prospective client or buyer through getting paid for your work.

                                    2. Professional communication;

Senior Planning Workshop: Building a Plan of Action for Graduation
Tues., Jan. 21, 12:15-1 PM in the Conference Room (off the Main Gallery)
All seniors are invited to participate in this session—don’t wait until after graduation to learn how to utilize your professional network, conduct a post-graduation job search, and convey the value of your skills and knowledge.

What Does it Mean to be a Freelance/Self-Employed Artist?
Thurs., Jan. 23, 12:15-1 in DA Media

Are you already doing freelance or commissioned work? Want to begin doing this type of work to earn money, build portfolio pieces and experience? At this workshop, Susan Lattimore, CPA with the Marston Group, will teach students about the “art” of self-employment related to taxes and financial planning.


Internship Orientation

Get prepared for the Internship fair on Feb. 28th! At this internship orientation (required for students planning to complete an internship), students will learn about the process, how to learn about all the opportunities available and expectations during their experience.
Internship Orientation is required for students wanting to complete internships.

Fear of Public Speaking…most of us have it. Katie Jenkins, Design Director at Oden Marketing and Communications, will use this interactive professional communications workshop to help students (all students-not just design arts) conquer their fear by offering a new perspective on preparing for upcoming interviews, professional presentations, and career and internship fairs. Ferris Scholarship Informational Meeting

Learn about the two $2500 scholarships available for students completing internships at high-profile sites outside Memphis during the summer.
           
Leadership Retreat
Fri., Feb. 21-Sat., Feb. 22 in DA Media
The purpose of the Leadership Retreat is to identify and develop students for leadership roles such as RAs, peer mentors, peer career advisors, Student Alliance officers and TAs. The learner objectives include increasing:
    knowledge about self and others;
    communication skills (listening, presenting); and
    ability to manage stress/conflict.

CS: Internship Fair
Friday, February 28, 2-3 PM, Main Gallery

Students interested in completing internships in the summer or fall should attend this fair to learn about the opportunities available. Students will need to rsvp by Feb. 17th, including information about their major and skills that will be sent to internship sites that plan to participate in the fair.
