About the Program

Students should consider applying to this new graduate program if they are ready to advance their art AND advance their professional careers. While these goals are interconnected, they are not exactly the same. Herron’s new graduate program offers a distinctive approach to gaining new skills, experience, and knowledge that prepares its students to engage and thrive at their highest professional capability in both arenas. Herron M.F.A. graduate students are active in the studio AND active in the world outside the studio.

Herron’s M.F.A. program seeks graduate students who are committed to an intense engagement with pragmatic professional strategies, theoretical ideas, the development of their craftsmanship to the highest professional standards, and who seek opportunities to explore how visual artists can thrive within the 21st century. Students can explore a range of options: artist as creative thinker, artist as skilled fabricator, artist as collaborator, artist as teacher, artist as innovator, artist as researcher, artist as planner, and artist as entrepreneur.

For a look at what some of our recent graduates accomplished, please double click the pdf below of our M.F.A. catalogue:

Herron is located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), a major urban university that now serves over 30,000 students. In the last decade, Herron moved from its historic campus to one of the very finest facilities for arts education in the nation.

In order to apply to the MFA degree program, students will follow the application steps posted on Herron’s Web site atwww.herron.iupui.edu. The deadline for the application is January 15, 2012.
