Gallery Exhibition opportunity

Batesville Area Arts Council:
Guide for Gallery on Main Submissions:
The Batesville Area Arts Council’s Gallery on Main allows artists a venue to share their work with the community. The gallery hosts solo and group exhibits annually by talented local and visiting artists along with receptions to allow the public to meet the artist to learn more about the individual and their work.

Any artist seeking to exhibit their work at the BAAC Gallery may submit proposals to be reviewed by the visual arts committee (comprised of art professionals).  Please submit a short typed proposal that can also include an artist statement and/ or bio.  Be specific in this proposal about the work you plan to display describing subject matter and media. Proposals for group exhibitions are also encouraged.  All proposals need to include a $10 non-refundable application fee.  Artists are highly encouraged to submit their work digitally. Please include 10-20 images as jpegs (suggested resolution 72 dpi with 1000 pixels widest dimension) on a CD labeled with your name and mail to: BAAC Attn: Visual Arts Committee, 246 East Main Street, Batesville, AR 72501 If you would prefer to send photographs or have your actual work looked at, please schedule a time with the committee by contacting baac@suddenlinkmail.com

Artwork is juried for appropriateness based on quality, subject matter, relevance to the community, and marketability. The committee will look at submissions on an ongoing basis and notify the artist of acceptance. We will consider your work for any relevant group shows. Submission materials will be returned if an evenlope with return address and sufficient postage is provided.

Guidelines for an exhibition:
All accepted work by the artist must be professionally presented for the gallery. Framed work must be wired and ready to hang for installation and be available for the duration of the exhibition.

What the Gallery will provide:
·                Advertising in local and social media.
·                Design of postcards sent to mailing list when feasible.
·                A reception with refreshments.
·                An opportunity for sales.
·                Sales paid within 30 days of the gallery receiving full payment on sold work.

What the Artist will provide:
·                Artists are responsible for hanging and taking down their own work.
·                35% commission rate will be charged on all sales to support the gallery.
·                Mail additional postcards to artist’s mailing list
·                Information for labels (titles, media, date, and price)
·                A high resolution digital image of a work from show for publicity (5”x 7” 300 dpi)
·                Public lecture at reception or demonstration of art process.

BAAC Gallery at Main Exhibition Policy:
The gallery each fiscal year will create and maintain a gallery schedule.  Shows typically run for six to eight weeks.  Work accepted and exhibited will only be on display during this period.  Once a show comes down that work is no longer eligible to be shown in the Gallery at Main.  All work must be original and be available for sale.  Work exhibited at the gallery must be from the last three years. All work not sold must be picked up by the artist within 30 days.

The BAAC carries insurance coverage for items in the gallery in the case of theft, fire, or natural disaster or damage up to the policy amount. Artists are encouraged to have a digital inventory of images of their work on display in order to facilitate insurance claims if necessary.
