University of Memphis prints exhibit
Hot Cold Cool
September 22 through January 12
Hot Cold Cool presents late 20th century art from four fine art print portfolios in AMUM's collection. "Ten Works by Ten Artists" published in 1964 includes silkscreens by iconic American Minimalist and Pop artists. By contrast, the portfolio "American Artists and Writers Protest the War in Vietnam" of 1967 expresses furious political antagonism. "Ten Lithographs by Ten Artists" produced in 1971 represents a return to figurative and expressive imagery in America. The 1973 World Print portfolio demonstrates the liveliness of the artistic interchange among nations during the Cold War era. RSVP

entered must have been produced during the student’s undergraduate enrollment
period and must have been created solely by the artist. Media may include:
painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, ceramics, photography, printmaking,
digital art, fiber art, mixed media, and jewelry. 2D works must be framed and

nails or screws cannot be driven into the art center walls. Works requiring
electricity or additional hanging structures should not be submitted and cannot
be exhibited. Large sculptures must be self-installed by the artist and the
definition of “large” in this case is left to the discretion of the exhibition
planners. The actual weight of any 3D work cannot exceed 200 lbs. The WTRAC has
a “no nudes policy”. Artists can either submit slides or digital images to
enter the competition by email.
Hand delivered works may be
brought to the WTRAC during normal museum hours, M – F 9 am – 4 pm until
Wednesday March 27th. Shipped works must also arrive by that day as
well with prepaid return shipping. The WTRAC prefers UPS shipping because they
will return to the center to pick up items themselves. Postal Service shipping
is acceptable as another option but pre-paying with them has been a problem in
the past. The phone number for the WTRAC is (731) 784-1787. Hand delivered
works must be picked up by Wednesday May 01st, no exceptions. Works
left at the WTRAC after that date will be moved to the UTM campus in Martin and
a $5 per day storage fee will be charged to retrieve the work. The WTRAC will
be closed Friday March 29 because of Good Friday.
