Los Angeles Printmaking Society
The Los Angeles Printmaking Society, a national nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California, is dedicated to the encouragement of printmaking, devoted to the interests of
printmakers and supportive of public and private collections of fine prints.
The intention of the LAPS 21st National is to treat printmaking as an evolving set of ideas. LAPS encourages the inclusion of a wide range of approaches to
printmaking,
encompassing the traditional to the nontraditional/
experimental, and desires to promote a venue for all relevant processes. The 21st National combines the best features of the juried competition and the invitational exhibition.

The Art Galleries at California State University, Northridge, are the major art exhibition space in the San Fernando Valley. Serving the University campus, the San Fernando Valley, and the greater Southern California communities, the Art Galleries offer an exhibition program that reflects the extraordinary diversity of the art world today and of our many audiences.
Juror
Jack Rutberg, owner and director of Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, Los Angeles, CA
An internationally known dealer, curator, collector and consultant for more than 30 years, Mr. Rutberg’s gallery represents a wide range of important American and European artists. He has lectured extensively on a wide range of subjects related to Modern and Contemporary art in many colleges and universities, including the University of California, Los Angeles, California State University, Northridge and Fullerton College. Among the many museums for which Mr. Rutberg has been guest speaker are the Douglas Hyde in Dublin, the Crawford
Museum in Cork Ireland, the Portland
Art Museum in Oregon, Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Los Angeles
County Museum. He has served on the boards of the Art Dealers Association of California, Los Angeles Art Galleries and has served on many committees and advisory boards, including the
California State University San Bernardino Art Gallery, the Graphic Arts Council and the Modern and Contemporary Art Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Mr. Rutberg has been featured and often quoted in local, national and international publications. He is credited with bringing significant artists to broader public attention and has published catalogues on the works of Hannelore Baron, Hans Burkhardt, Claire Falkenstein and Patrick Graham. In addition to his own publications, he has written the introduction to the book on Patrick Graham, published in Ireland by Gandon Editions and the introductory text on the Kathë Kollwitz catalogue published for the University College Gallery exhibition in Galway, Ireland.
Awards
The 20th National exhibition yielded over $5,000 in cash and purchase awards from public and private collections, including Graphic Chemical and Ink Co., Hiromi Paper and Tobey Moss Gallery. A minimum of $3,000 is guaranteed for the 21st National.
Format
The juror will select one work from each selected artist. Preliminary selections will be made from submissions made to CaFÉ, the online call for entries service by means of a blind jurying process. Each artist can submit up to three Jpeg images of work. Work must have been completed in the last three years. For the 21st National, LAPS is inviting representation from select presses in Southern California, which will also be selected by the juror.

Submission of Work
Visit www.callforentry.org to submit your images for consideration.
Submitted digital images should represent the quality and nature of the work. Work considerably different than the submitted Jpegs will not be hung. Works that do not meet the juror’s expectations set forth
by the Jpeg images may be withheld at the juror’s discretion. While this option is seldom exercised, the juror and the LAPS reserve the right to ensure the quality of the exhibition.
Only if submissions can’t be made through the Web, a CD with 300 dpi Jpegs or PDFs is acceptable. Mailed submissions must be sent to: LAPS 21st National, attn. Poli Marichal,

LAPS is not responsible for unclaimed, undelivered or damaged CD’s. Mailed submissions must include: a filled Entry Card and Notification Card, a CD with 300 dpi Jpegs of submitted works with accompanying list stating: Title, Year, Medium and Size and a check
in U.S. currency for a non-refundable entry fee of $35 for up to three works (LAPS members in good standing $25). A stamped self-addressed envelope must accompany each check. Do not send cash. U.S. funds only, NO foreign currency accepted. LAPS is
a non-profit organization and fees collected will be used for exhibition expenses.

Opening reception at California State University Northridge (CSUN) Art Galleries
Eligibility
Open to all artists residing in the United States and Canada. Student work done under supervision is not acceptable.
Media
Original works in all printmaking media including monotypes, monoprints, and three dimensional works. LAPS will not consider traditional photography, off-set reproductions, or reproductions of art originally produced in other media.
Insurance and Liability
Every reasonable precaution will be taken to ensure protection and careful handling of artwork. Accepted work will be insured while in the possession of CSUN Art Galleries. Artists should arrange for their own insurance during shipping. The LAPS or CSUN Art Galleries can assume no liability for loss or damage occurring to containers or contents while in transit.
CSUN Art Galleries will receive a 20% commission on any works sold. In addition, the LAPS will receive a 5% commission on any works sold which will go directly into the LAPS Scholarship Fund.
Catalog
A catalog will be produced and one copy will be distributed to each participating artist. Additional copies will be available after the opening of the exhibition. Consent to reproduce work in the exhibition for publicity, catalog, and educational purposes is assumed. Accepted artists will be asked to provide a 300 dpi digital image of one of the accepted works along with typed biographical information by May 1, 2013. Failure to meet deadlines and specifications will result in exclusion from the catalog.
Membership
Non-LAPS members included in the exhibit will automatically be extended the privileges of membership in LAPS for the period of one year. Those artists not selected for the exhibit will be automatically reviewed and, if accepted, will have the opportunity to join the society with the payment of the $50.00 dues.

Satellite Show
Works not juried into the National will be considered for a concurrent satellite exhibition to be held in the Los Angeles area.
Shipping/Return of Work
All accepted work must be received no later than October 8 for shipped work and October 11 for hand delivered work. Works shipped from Canada or other foreign countries must be able to clear customs and arrive at CSUN Art Galleries. Upon jurying, accepted artists will receive complete shipping instructions in the notification letter.
Entries should arrive at the CSUN Art Galleries framed under plexiglass and ready for hanging according to museum standards (exceptions are only made for works requiring unique installation). Work arriving late or damaged or not following the required format cannot be included in the exhibition.
Work will be returned after the exhibition, provided that the pre-payment of the return shipping costs are included in the entry. UPS and FedEx account numbers are acceptable. If the work does not include return shipping it will not get hung, and will be returned to the artist C.O.D. LAPS will not be responsible for work unclaimed at the return address by the sender. Date and time for pick-up of hand delivered work will be supplied in the notification letter.
